PM Modi Unveils Rs 100 Coin Featuring Bharat Mata for First Time on Indian Currency

In a historic move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released a commemorative Rs 100 coin and a special postage stamp, marking the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). For the first time in independent India, the coin features a depiction of Bharat Mata on Indian currency.

The coin displays the national emblem on one side, while the other side portrays Bharat Mata in Varada Mudra, a gesture of offering with the palm outward, accompanied by a lion. In the depiction, Swayamsevaks are shown bowing in devotion, symbolizing dedication to the nation. Inscribed on the coin is the RSS motto, “Rashtriya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama”, meaning “Everything is dedicated to the nation, everything belongs to the nation, nothing is mine.”

“At this historic moment, Bharat Mata is being featured on Indian currency for the first time, marking a moment of pride for the nation,” PM Modi said during the launch event held in Delhi.

The commemorative postal stamp released alongside highlights RSS workers’ participation in the 1963 Republic Day Parade, underlining the organization’s century-long contribution to nation-building and social service.

The centenary celebrations, organized by the Ministry of Culture, were attended by RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Founded in 1925 in Nagpur by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS was established as a volunteer-based organization aimed at fostering cultural awareness, discipline, service, and social responsibility among citizens. PM Modi, a former RSS pracharak, rose through its ranks before joining the BJP, which draws its ideological inspiration from the Hindutva organization.

The release of the coin and stamp also emphasizes the RSS’s extensive social service, including blood donation drives, food distribution, and disaster relief efforts during events like the Kedarnath floods, Bihar floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The unveiling of the Rs 100 coin and Bharat Mata’s historic depiction represents both a tribute to the nation and a celebration of the RSS’s 100-year journey of service and dedication.
