Nothing Unveils Ear (3) Earbuds with “Super Mic” Case and Talk Button Ahead of Full Launch

Nothing has officially revealed its upcoming wireless earbuds, the Ear (3), introducing a number of upgrades including its most advanced charging case yet. The key new features are a built-in “Super Mic” and a dedicated “Talk” button on the case, both of which mark a shift toward giving the charging case functional significance beyond just holding power.

The case is now crafted from 100 percent anodised recycled aluminium, a material change aimed at enhancing durability and giving it a more premium feel. The brand says it has also refined internal design details, including a reengineered metal antenna that is flattened and trimmed down to just 0.35 mm for sleeker design and better form.

The Super Mic embedded in the case is designed to improve voice clarity during calls, even in noisy surroundings. When the Talk button is pressed, the case takes over as the primary microphone source, potentially enabling calls, voice notes, or other voice-input uses using the case rather than the earbuds themselves. How broadly this will be supported—across apps, video recording, etc.—varies or is yet to be confirmed.

On the audio side, the Ear (3) brings upgraded 12 mm dynamic drivers, replacing smaller drivers in previous models, with improvements claimed in bass response, reduced distortion, and richer treble. Active noise cancellation (ANC) has also been enhanced, described as adaptive, adjusting dynamically to surroundings and fit.

Battery life is improved with the earbuds delivering around 5.5 hours of listening with ANC enabled, and total usage extending to about 22 hours when including the case. Connectivity upgrades include Bluetooth 5.4 and support for LDAC, restoring broader high-resolution audio compatibility. The buds preserve IP54 water and dust resistance.

Pricing has been set at US$179, placing Ear (3) above some earlier models in the Nothing lineup. Pre-orders begin on 18 September 2025, with global availability following shortly after.

With its refreshed design, focus on voice clarity via the Super Mic and Talk button, and upgraded sound hardware, Nothing aims to make the Ear (3) a compelling option in the premium true wireless earbuds segment. As more reviews emerge, attention will likely centre on how effective the new mic system is in daily use.
