The 2025 edition of the Hurun India Rich List has once again placed Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, at the very top as the country’s richest man. Ambani’s wealth surged to over ₹10.5 lakh crore, cementing his leadership position for the 13th consecutive year.
Close behind is Gautam Adani of the Adani Group, whose diversified business empire kept him firmly in second place despite fluctuations in global markets. Together, Ambani and Adani account for nearly one-fourth of the cumulative wealth of India’s richest individuals, reflecting their dominant roles in sectors like energy, infrastructure, and technology.
One of the biggest highlights of the 2025 report is the entry of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan into the billionaire’s club. With his flourishing film production ventures, global endorsements, and the massive success of his recent movies, Khan’s net worth crossed the billion-dollar mark, making him one of the rare film actors worldwide to achieve this milestone. His inclusion underscores the growing influence of the Indian entertainment industry in wealth creation.
The Hurun report also sheds light on shifting wealth trends across industries. Technology entrepreneurs, healthcare leaders, and renewable energy players saw the fastest growth in wealth, with startups continuing to produce new billionaires. Meanwhile, traditional sectors like real estate and steel experienced relatively slower growth.
The 2025 list features over 1,300 individuals with wealth above ₹1,000 crore, an increase from last year, showing India’s expanding economic strength. Among them are 94 new entrants, many of whom are young founders in AI, fintech, and e-commerce.
Wealth distribution across cities also remained noteworthy. Mumbai continues to lead as India’s wealth capital, followed closely by New Delhi and Bengaluru. The southern cities of Hyderabad and Chennai also saw a steady rise in representation, reflecting the region’s growing role in IT and pharma.
With Ambani and Adani maintaining dominance, and personalities like Shah Rukh Khan breaking into the billionaire league, the 2025 Hurun Rich List portrays a dynamic and diversifying Indian economy that blends industry, innovation, and culture.
