India Mobile Congress 2025: Prime Minister Modi Highlights Technological Advancements and Self-Reliance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9th edition of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, emphasizing India’s strides in digital technology and self-reliance. The event, Asia’s largest telecom, media, and technology forum, showcased innovations in areas like 6G, quantum communication, and optical communications.

PM Modi underscored that India’s success in the telecom sector reflects the strength of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. He highlighted that the country, once struggling with 2G, now boasts 5G coverage in nearly every district. Electronics production has increased sixfold since 2014, mobile phone manufacturing has grown twenty-eight times, and exports have surged by 127 times. The mobile phone manufacturing sector has generated millions of direct jobs over the past decade.

A significant achievement was the launch of India’s Made-in-India 4G stack, making it one of only five countries globally with this capability. On the day of the launch, nearly 100,000 4G towers were activated simultaneously, enabling over 20 million people to join the digital movement. The indigenous 4G and 5G stack ensures seamless connectivity and is export-ready, contributing to the ‘India 6G Vision 2030’.

PM Modi also highlighted the enactment of the Telecommunications Act, replacing outdated laws, and emphasized India’s position as the world’s second-largest telecom and 5G market. He encouraged global investment, innovation, and manufacturing in India, citing the country’s democratic setup and investor-friendly policies.

The IMC 2025, organized by the Department of Telecommunications and the Cellular Operators Association of India, is being held from October 8 to 11 under the theme “Innovate to Transform.” The event features over 1,600 new use-cases across areas such as 5G/6G, AI, smart mobility, cybersecurity, quantum computing, and green technology, with participation from over 150 countries.

PM Modi concluded by expressing hope that platforms like the India Mobile Congress would serve as effective catalysts for dialogue and innovation in the technology sector.
