Mojang Studios has officially named its third major game drop of 2025 “The Copper Age,” corresponding to Minecraft version 1.21.9. Although no exact release date has been confirmed yet, the update is expected to launch in fall 2025, possibly during or immediately after the Minecraft Live event scheduled for September 27, 2025.
What “The Copper Age” Brings
- Copper Golem: A new buildable passive mob. Players can create it by placing a carved pumpkin on a copper block (or using its spawn egg or
/summoncommand). It starts with a copper chest to help organize items: you can put things in the copper chest, and the golem sorts them into nearby chests. Over time, the golem and its chest will oxidize; when fully oxidized, the golem becomes a decorative statue. It can be revived with an axe. - Copper Armor, Tools & Horse Armor: Craft a full copper gear set, offering durability between stone and iron. This includes weapons, armor, and horse armor.
- Copper-Based Decorative Blocks: New craftable blocks such as copper chains, copper bars, copper lanterns, copper torches, and copper chests — all of which will oxidize over time. Waxing them preserves their appearance.
- Shelves: Decorative blocks capable of holding up to three item stacks. Shelves also work with hotbar swapping and redstone setups, making them functional as well as decorative.
Release Details & Previews
Players already have a taste of the update through the Java snapshot and Bedrock beta/preview builds, where key Copper Age features are available to test. While the official launch window is set for “later this year,” concrete confirmation is likely to come during or after Minecraft Live.
With “The Copper Age,” Mojang aims to give copper — an ore added years ago but under-utilized — a meaningful place in gameplay. The upcoming update promises to reshape how players interact with copper, offering both utility and aesthetic possibilities.
