Google Lens Debuts “Nano Banana” AI Mode to Transform Images Into Art

Google has rolled out a new AI feature in Google Lens called Nano Banana, enabling users to convert ordinary photos into stylized art forms like manga, anime, and 3D figurines. The feature is currently available to users with access to Gemini Pro / Ultra and the Image Generation API.

With Nano Banana, simply uploading a picture and applying a prompt triggers the AI to reinterpret it in a creative style. Users can ask for transformations—such as turning a portrait into a stylized anime character, reimagining a scene as a manga panel, or transforming an image into a 3D collectible figure. The system leverages Layer-aware Edit capabilities to preserve depth, lighting, and facial features during creative conversions.

Not only limited to style shifts, the AI also supports context-aware editing actions—like isolating objects or reimagining backgrounds—without losing coherence in the image. The AI’s internal architecture ensures that changes feel natural and integrated by working across multiple layers in the visual data.

As part of the rollout, the feature is being gradually made available; not all users will see it immediately. Google plans to expand Nano Banana to more markets over time. The development further deepens the integration of generative AI within Google’s imaging and search tools, signaling a push toward more creative and interactive utilities for users.
